Welcome to the Bishop's Stortford Chess Club

“Chess is like war on a board”, “Chess is not for timid souls”, “Kindness of heart is little use in chess” are all quotes … from those who should know better! No blood is shed, timidity can be left at the door and any club functions better if its members care for each other.

The attitude at our club is closer to “I spend hours playing chess because I find it so much fun. The day it stops being fun is the day I give up.” The words of a no-hoper? I guess that depends on how you view Magnus Carlsen (the current World Chess Champion.)
Bishop's Stortford Chess Club is regarded, even by opponents, as a friendly club. We meet from 19.45 on Thursdays at the Methodist Church Hall, 34b South Street, Bishop’s Stortford, CM23 3AZ.

Just come down the path to the right of the church to the door on the side … and don’t worry if you are late!
